Take the Magenta Line to Vasant Vihar Metro Station. The Magenta Line runs Janakpuri West to Botanical Garden, with Vasant Vihar a key South-West Delhi station. Exit Gate 1 onto Poorvi Marg. From here, an auto-rickshaw or e-rickshaw covers the 1.5 km to the SDM office in 5 minutes. If you prefer to walk, allow 15-20 minutes — the route via the Vasant Vihar internal lanes is pleasant in winter, less so in May or June.
Alternative metro option — RK Puram Metro (Pink Line) is 2 km from the office. From IGI Airport Terminal 3, the Airport Express drops you at New Delhi; then Yellow Line to Hauz Khas; then Magenta Line one stop to Vasant Vihar. Total time about 50 minutes — among the fastest airport-to-SDM connections in Delhi.
From Vasant Vihar Metro to the SDM office: auto ₹30-40, Uber ₹50-80. From IGI Airport — Uber ₹250-350, 20-30 minutes. From Gurgaon Cyber Hub — Uber ₹400-500, 30-45 minutes. From Connaught Place — Uber ₹250-300, 25-35 minutes. From Saket — Uber ₹200-280, 20-30 minutes. The wide roads in this part of Delhi mean cab rides are predictable; no auto-driver refusals because the area is well-known.
DTC routes 502, 506, 507, 540, 605 and several Cluster Buses stop on Africa Avenue and at the Priya Cinema stand. The walk from the bus stop to the SDM office is 5-7 minutes.
Wide roads, easy navigation. The SDM office area has some on-street parking; if full, use the Vasant Vihar Club parking (visitor pass available with a small fee) or the Priya Market multi-storey paid parking (₹40 for 4 hours). From the Gurgaon-Delhi border via NH-48, the office is a 25-minute drive off-peak.
SDM Vasant Vihar is a focused, mid-sized government office — neither as large as Saket Court nor as small as a sub-tehsildar office. The marriage workflow is concentrated in one wing.
Walk in through the main gate after a brief security check (metal detector and name register). Mobile phones are allowed. The waiting area on the right is clean and air-conditioned — a comfortable place for elderly family members to sit while younger relatives handle paperwork.
The marriage office is on the ground floor of the main administrative wing. One counter for SMA notice filing and document verification; one signing room for the actual marriage register. The SDM officer's chamber is adjacent and accessible by appointment for complex cases (NRI apostille verification, inter-religion notice opt-out applications).
The SDM office itself does not house a stamp vendor. Walk 200 metres towards Priya Cinema and there are two licensed stamp vendors and three photocopy shops. Rates are slightly higher than other Delhi areas (Vasant Vihar pricing) but quality is excellent. Photocopy ₹3 per page B/W, lamination ₹25, ₹10 stamp paper readily available.
The Vasant Vihar area is full of premium and mid-range restaurants. Priya Complex has a McDonald's, a Subway, a Starbucks, and the Cafe Coffee Day where many marriage clients have met us for the first time. Sit-down options include Bukhara-style Punjabi restaurants on Africa Avenue and a number of South Indian restaurants near Anand Niketan market. A relaxed lunch between document submission and signing is normal here.
HDFC, ICICI, SBI ATMs at Priya Complex. Carry ₹3,000-5,000 in clean ₹500 notes for the government fees — Vasant Vihar SDM is fully digital but cash receipts are still preferred for marriage fees because the receipt format is standard.
Officially 10 AM to 6 PM, Monday to Saturday (closed Sundays and second Saturdays). The SDM officer is at his desk by 10:30 AM. New application submission accepted between 10:30 AM and 1 PM and 2:30 PM to 4 PM. Marriage signings happen between 11 AM and 5 PM. Friday afternoons are slow because the SDM frequently attends inter-departmental coordination meetings at the New Delhi Municipal Council.
Two parallel counters in the marriage wing. Counter A for SMA notice filing, document verification and Tatkal application submission. Counter B for marriage signings and certificate handover. Tatkal cases use Counter A in the morning and Counter B in the afternoon.
The Vasant Vihar marriage register is fully digitised. The SDM clerk enters details into the Delhi government portal, prints the certificate with QR code, and the partners and witnesses sign the printed register on the spot. The QR code links to the live verification database. For NRI couples needing MEA apostille later, this digital trail simplifies the apostille verification process.
If the SDM officer is at the NDMC or at a Lieutenant Governor's coordination meeting, the Tehsildar verifies routine documents but cannot sign marriages. Signing is the SDM's personal authority. In that case, the case is rescheduled — usually the same afternoon or the next morning. 5 km from the SDM office. Preferred by couples staying at hotels in Vasant Kunj. Fee ₹2,500-3,000.
The standard warning — the Vasant Vihar area has at least three commercial "Arya Samaj"-named venues that are not affiliated with the Sarvadeshik Arya Pratinidhi Sabha. Their certificates fail at the SDM counter. Through us, you only get routed to recognised mandirs.

Foreign-passport-holding partners need a valid Indian visa (or OCI card) and a single-status / no-impediment certificate from their country of residence. The Vasant Vihar SDM accepts certificates apostilled in any Hague Convention country or attested by the Indian Embassy of the issuing country. Both formats are equally valid here.
