Honest, on-the-ground guide to court marriage in Karol Bagh. Which SDM counter to approach, which Arya Samaj mandir on Pusa Road actually issues SDM-acceptable certificates, the WEA jurisdiction explained — written by the team that runs Central Delhi cases week after week.
Karol Bagh has been Central Delhi's commercial heart for over seventy years and the area carries a marriage tradition all of its own. The neighbourhood is home to dozens of Arya Samaj mandirs, a large Punjabi community, and one of the oldest concentrations of marriage-related shops, jewellers, sarees, photographers and consultants in the city. For couples whose families have lived in Karol Bagh, WEA, Old Rajinder Nagar or New Rajinder Nagar for generations, doing the court marriage here feels natural — the streets are familiar, the mandirs are familiar, and the SDM office is a short walk or auto ride from home.
The SDM jurisdiction for Karol Bagh falls under the Central Delhi sub-divisional structure. The local SDM office is the Marriage Officer for an area covering Karol Bagh, the WEA (West Extension Area) blocks, parts of Pahar Ganj, Old Rajinder Nagar, New Rajinder Nagar, Rajender Place and pockets of Patel Nagar. For couples whose Aadhaar shows pincode 110005 (Karol Bagh), 110055 (Pahar Ganj boundary), 110060 (Rajinder Nagar) or 110008 (Patel Nagar), this is the natural office. Many Karol Bagh cases historically went to the Tis Hazari Court SDM which is 6 km away and reachable via Red Line in 12 minutes — your case can be filed at either depending on jurisdictional fit and processing speed on a given day.
Our Central Delhi desk has handled Karol Bagh cases since 2016. The demographic here is distinctive — many NRI Punjabi families flying in to register weddings for their children before returning abroad; many Punjabi business families wanting both the Arya Samaj cultural ceremony and the legal court paperwork in one go; many older couples doing late-life remarriage after divorce or widowhood. The Karol Bagh SDM officer is familiar with all of these patterns and the workflow accommodates each.

SDM Karol Bagh Office
Near Ajmal Khan Road
Karol Bagh, New Delhi — 110005
Nearest Metro: Karol Bagh Metro Station (Blue Line)
Walking distance: 5-6 minutes from Gate 1
Fallback Court: Tis Hazari Court Complex (Red Line, 12 minutes)
Google Maps coordinates: 28.6517° N, 77.1909° E. The SDM office sign is in Hindi and English. For Uber and Ola, type "SDM Karol Bagh Office" — typing only "Karol Bagh" pins random commercial buildings on Ajmal Khan Road.
Take the Blue Line to Karol Bagh Metro Station. The Blue Line runs Noida City Centre / Vaishali to Dwarka Sector-21, with Karol Bagh sitting between Rajiv Chowk and Rajendra Place. Exit through Gate 1, which faces the Ajmal Khan Road direction. The SDM office is a 5-6 minute walk along the side street. Auto-rickshaw from the metro exit to the office is ₹20-30 if you prefer not to walk.
If your jurisdiction routes you to Tis Hazari, take the Red Line from Karol Bagh interchange (via Inderlok) to Tis Hazari Metro Station. Total journey under 15 minutes. Tis Hazari Court is a 7-minute walk from its metro exit.
Karol Bagh's grid of one-way streets makes auto-rickshaws the practical choice for short hops. From the metro to the SDM office is a ₹30 auto fare. From Connaught Place — auto ₹100-120 or Uber ₹120-180. From Dhaula Kuan — auto ₹120-150 or Uber ₹180-220. From IGI Airport — Uber ₹400-500, 40-50 minutes. Be aware that Ajmal Khan Road is heavily congested between 11 AM and 8 PM; an auto from Karol Bagh Metro is sometimes faster than an Uber because of the one-way restrictions for cars.
DTC routes 901, 920, 940 and many Cluster Buses stop near the Karol Bagh Petrol Pump and the Pusa Road junction. The walk from the bus stop to the SDM office is 8-10 minutes.
Driving in Karol Bagh during daytime is genuinely frustrating because of pedestrian volume and the no-entry restrictions on the main bazaar lanes. Park at the WEA Mansarovar Park Complex parking (₹50 for 4 hours) or the multi-level paid parking near Karol Bagh Metro (₹40 for 4 hours), then walk or take an auto. Avoid trying to park directly outside the SDM office — you will lose 30 minutes circling.
The SDM Karol Bagh office is a smaller, less imposing setup than a court complex like Tis Hazari or Saket. It is a focused administrative office handling marriages, address verifications, revenue documents and ration card work. The marriage office is on the ground floor in most cases, with one main window for application submission and one signing room for the actual marriage register.
Walk in through the main entry gate. There may be a basic security check — register your name at the entry desk if asked. Mobile phones are allowed. The marriage office is signposted in Hindi and English from the entry.
One main room handles both application verification and the actual marriage signing. The SDM officer's chamber is adjacent. The clerk who handles paperwork is usually present from 10:30 AM. Application submissions are accepted between 11 AM and 2 PM; afternoons are for signings.
Step outside the office and the street is lined with photocopy shops, stamp vendors and small lawyers' chambers — Karol Bagh has the densest concentration of legal-support services in Central Delhi after Tis Hazari. Photocopy is ₹2-3 per page. Stamp paper of all denominations is available immediately. A notary sits at the second shop on the row from 10:30 AM to 5 PM.
Karol Bagh is a food destination. Within a 5-minute walk from the SDM office you have Roshan Di Kulfi, Bikanervala, Haldiram, the famous chhole-bhature outlets on Bank Street, vegetarian Punjabi restaurants on Pusa Road and several mid-range cafes. Plan to eat after the SDM signing — a celebratory lunch after registration is a Karol Bagh tradition.
Karol Bagh has the highest density of recognised Arya Samaj mandirs in Delhi after Old Delhi. This is the area's marriage strength.
The parent organisation's main bhawan is located in Karol Bagh itself — on Ramjas Road. This is the headquarters mandir for Arya Samaj weddings in Delhi. Ceremonies here are conducted with full traditional vidhi. Ceremony fee here is ₹2,000-3,000. Same-day Arya Samaj certificate is issued. The certificate is automatically accepted by every SDM in Delhi because it is from the parent organisation. Walking distance to SDM Karol Bagh — about 1.5 km, 10-12 minutes by auto.
One of the busiest Arya Samaj mandirs in Central Delhi. Conducts 6-8 weddings on most days. Pandit ji here is experienced with both the religious vidhi and the SDM paperwork chain. Fee ₹1,500-2,000. Walking distance to SDM office — 2 km.
Smaller, quieter mandir preferred by couples wanting privacy with small family attendance. Fee similar to Pusa Road. Drive time to SDM office — 7-10 minutes.
One serious caution. Karol Bagh has multiple "Arya Samaj"-named venues that are not affiliated with the Sarvadeshik Arya Pratinidhi Sabha. They are essentially commercial wedding venues using the Arya Samaj name. Their certificates fail at the SDM counter. Always check for the parent-organisation plaque at the mandir entrance, or book through us to be routed only to recognised venues.

Aadhaar with a Karol Bagh, WEA, Pahar Ganj boundary or Rajinder Nagar address is the simplest proof. If your Aadhaar shows another address, bring a registered rent agreement or a recent utility bill in your name showing the Karol Bagh-area address from at least 30 days ago.
Aadhaar name, Class 10 marksheet name and marriage application name must match. The Karol Bagh SDM is strict on Punjabi surname variations — "Singh", "Kaur", "Sandhu" and similar must appear consistently or be reconciled via a gazetted-officer affidavit.
Three witnesses each with original Aadhaar and a second photo ID. Witnesses do not need a Delhi address.
Six passport-size photos each, white background, recent. Get them clicked at one of the Bank Street studios — the photographers know the SDM specification.

Our Karol Bagh desk pre-verifies documents and books your mandir plus SDM slot end-to-end.
Karol Bagh has the largest NRI Punjabi flow of any Delhi area. Families flying in from Canada, the UK, the US and Australia routinely register their children's marriages here because the area has the cultural infrastructure — Punjabi mandirs, Punjabi caterers, jewellers, photographers and family hotels.
NRI document requirements for Karol Bagh — valid passport with Indian visa or OCI card; single-status certificate from the country of residence (apostilled or attested by the Indian Embassy abroad); standard photographs and Indian partner documents. If both partners are NRI, both apostilled single-status certificates needed.

The SDM Karol Bagh officer has handled inter-caste and inter-religion cases for many years. The office is professional and discreet about sensitive cases.
For inter-caste couples where both partners are Hindu, the Arya Samaj plus SDM route is the fastest — Arya Samaj does not require partners to share caste, and the SDM registration under Section 8 of the Hindu Marriage Act gives full legal validity in a single day.
For inter-religion couples (Hindu-Muslim, Hindu-Christian, Sikh-Christian etc.), the only legal route is the Special Marriage Act, 1954. The Allahabad High Court ruling allowing notice opt-out is honoured by SDM Karol Bagh in clear cases — your lawyer will draft the application accordingly. Full process on our inter-caste marriage Delhi page with case stories in our inter-caste love marriage guide.
Patterns observed over many cases:
Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday between 11 AM and 1 PM. SDM officer is most available, fewer walk-ins, signing completes by 4 PM.
Friday morning. Saturday morning (except second Saturday). Avoid Friday after 3 PM.
Monday — weekend file backlog. First three working days of every month — auspicious-date couples crowd the office. Day before any major Hindu festival — wedding-related applications spike.
Sundays. Second Saturday. Central government holidays. Delhi-specific holidays. Always confirm by phone the evening before.
Tis Hazari Court is the historical SDM marriage office for Central and North Delhi. Couples in the Karol Bagh jurisdiction sometimes use Tis Hazari when the Karol Bagh SDM has unusual delays or when the case is complex (NRI apostille required, inter-religion with security concerns).
Tis Hazari is older, more crowded, and the building is hard to navigate without help — but the SDM officer there has handled more cases than perhaps any other in Delhi. For high-complexity cases, the experience matters. We can route your case to either SDM depending on what is best for your specific situation.
Includes mandir ceremony at Sarvadeshik Bhawan or Pusa Road, pandit fee, hawan samagri, varmala exchange, Arya Samaj certificate, SDM Karol Bagh registration the same afternoon, SDM marriage certificate, witness arrangement if needed, all government fees, advocate fees, photocopy at the SDM office, our staff escorting through every step.
30-day notice filing, notice-window monitoring, final affidavit drafting, marriage signing arrangement, witness arrangement, government fees, certificate collection.
Tatkal application, ₹10,000 government Tatkal fee, expedited review, same-day signing, certificate.
