Apply for your court marriage on the Delhi e-District portal in roughly twenty minutes. Below is the exact 2026 process — login, document upload, SDM appointment, fee challan, and the eight common reasons the portal silently rejects an application before the SDM ever sees it.
Half-yes. The form, the fee challan, the appointment slot — these now happen entirely on edistrict.delhigovt.nic.in. The physical visit has shrunk to a single appointment at the SDM office where the couple, three witnesses, and the original documents have to be present. No more standing in line for a form, no more separate fee counter. In 2026 the entire pre-visit work is on the screen of your phone.
This guide is written from the actual portal — not from a press release. Every screen name, dropdown and button label below matches what you will see when you log in this week. If you want us to handle the whole upload-and-appointment cycle for you, our same-day court marriage package starts at ₹6,100.
The portal asks this first, and the rest of the form changes based on your answer. Choose carefully — the wrong selection wastes the ₹100 challan and sends you back to step one.
If you are unsure which one applies to you, our Arya Samaj vs Court Marriage comparison spells out the everyday consequences of each route.

Open edistrict.delhigovt.nic.in on a laptop or a desktop browser. The portal works on mobile, but document uploads on mobile fail more often because of camera resolution. Use the laptop.
Click New User, then choose Document Type for Registration as Aadhaar Number. The OTP arrives on the mobile number linked to your Aadhaar — if your Aadhaar mobile is outdated, fix that first at the nearest CSC kiosk, otherwise you cannot even start. Set a password you will remember; the portal has no “forgot password” reset that works during business hours.
After login, follow Apply for Services → Department of Revenue → Registration of Marriage. The application opens as a four-tab form: Husband Details, Wife Details, Marriage Details, and Documents Upload.
Each scan must be a clear PDF or JPEG under 1 MB. The portal silently truncates anything larger. Use a free PDF compressor before upload — the saved time is enormous.
Choose the Online Payment option. The portal redirects to the SBI ePay gateway. Three things you should know before paying:
After payment, the portal opens the Appointment Calendar. Rohini SDM (covering North-West Delhi residents) usually has slots within 5–7 working days. Tis Hazari SDM (Civil Lines, Central Delhi) takes 7–10 days. Tatkal slots open the very next morning at 10 AM — set an alarm; they fill within forty minutes.
For the geography of the two main locations, see our complete Court Marriage Delhi guide, which has metro routes and parking notes for both courts.
Reach the SDM office thirty minutes early. Carry every original document plus one photocopy set. Witnesses must come with their original Aadhaar and PAN — no copies, the SDM verifies originals against the uploaded scans on screen.
The Marriage Officer interviews each spouse separately for two or three minutes — questions are simple: "How did you meet? When was the wedding? Who attended?" The questions exist to test free consent, not to trip anyone up. Answer in your own words; rehearsed answers actually raise suspicion.
After verification, the SDM signs the register and uploads the digital certificate to your e-District dashboard the same evening (Hindu Marriage Act, Tatkal) or after the 30-day notice period (Special Marriage Act). A hard copy with embossed seal is available the next working day.
From our running notebook of 2026 cases — the rejections we now see every week:
Application got rejected on the portal? Don’t pay the fee twice.
Forward us the rejection note — we fix and refile.

Couples often arrive surprised at this part, so we list it up front:
The ₹100 or ₹150 portal fee is honest, but it is not the full cost. The honest 2026 cost in Delhi looks like this:

No. The application, payment and appointment booking are online. The SDM verification, witness identification and signing of the register need one in-person visit. There is no fully virtual marriage in Indian law as of 2026.
Only edistrict.delhigovt.nic.in. Other "delhi-courtmarriage-online.in" type sites are private consultant landing pages — not the government. Bookmark the official one.
Yes. Under the Delhi Compulsory Registration of Marriage Order 2014, any marriage solemnised in Delhi can be registered later. You upload the original wedding evidence — Arya Samaj certificate, temple receipt, wedding photographs, invitation card — and the SDM accepts the late registration with a small late fee.
Yes, on the appointment day, for verification and signing. Witnesses must also be present. NRI partners on short visits can complete the full process in a 48-hour visit if Tatkal is used.
Yes. The portal certificate carries the SDM’s digital signature and the same QR code. Banks, embassies, passport offices and the MEA all accept the e-District digital certificate. A printed hard copy with the embossed seal is available the next working day if you need it for older institutions that still insist on paper.
Rarely, but yes — typically for an Aadhaar–10th name mismatch the couple did not declare, or an undisclosed previous marriage. Once registered as a rejection on the SDM file, refiling is harder. Best practice: fix every document before the appointment.
The portal looks simple. It is not. Roughly four in ten couples who attempt it themselves come back to us within a week because of one of the eight rejection reasons above. The cost of two rejections (₹100 + ₹100 + lost weekend + lost half-day from work × 2) is already most of what an end-to-end consultant charges. We do the upload, the affidavit, the witness coordination, the SDM liaison and the corrections in real-time. Our all-inclusive pricing is ₹6,100 — Tatkal ₹12,000.
